Constables Patrol

The Harris County Sherriff's Department is responsible for law enforcement within an amazing 1,788 square miles of the patrol area. In the Northeast, this geographic area could represent the entire state.

Harris County Sherriff's and the Constable's Offices are organized geographically into Precincts in order to administer law enforcement. We live in Precinct 4. Under the County Sheriff's Office, Constables and Deputy Sheriffs who provide professional law enforcement for all county residents, including those in non-incorporated areas.

A question many new residents ask after moving into our District is why have a patrol contract with Precinct 4 Constables? Our customers live in unincorporated areas of Harris County, that is, outside the boundaries of the City of Houston, and do not pay city taxes. Houston residents pay for their police, fire, ambulance services through their city taxes, and water and sewer services through higher water and sewer rates.

We are served by a local Constables office and receive improved visibility and response times above the county-wide service under a contract for additional patrols.
