Welcome to the expanded website of
Harris County Municipal Utility District
#18.
The District provides some very important
services to our neighbors and customers, and
we are pleased to offer this convenient
resource to keep you informed and up-to-date
about one of the most important elements in
our daily lives…WATER.
Since being created in 1972, HCMUD #18
has grown to include the subdivisions of
Hunters Valley, Heatherwood, Western
Estates, Hidden Falls and a small section of
Lakewood Forest. The District supplies water
and sewer services for our residential and
commercial customers, and contracts with
Harris County Pct. 4 for additional
Constable security patrols.
Over the past decade, significant changes
have occurred in the way we think about our
finite water resources. Water supply and
quality have become global issues with
episodes of drought and shortages that have
captured international media attention. Some
American cities have all but run out of
drinking water, and water conservation –
once largely ignored – has become a
household concept worth pursuing as it is
apparent that the days of cheap and
plentiful water supplies are over.
The
Harris-Galveston Subsidence District has
ordered a reduction our reliance on
groundwater in northwest Harris County
through phased conversion to surface water.
Not only had the extraction of groundwater
caused areas in our community to sink (which
contributed to localized flooding), but our
critical aquifers were being depleted faster
than they could be recharged. To accomplish
this colossal conversion assignment, the
North Harris County Regional Water Authority
was created in 2000 to be the single entity
to oversee the construction of an entirely
new water delivery infrastructure as we
prepare for the initial shift to surface
water in 2010.
As active participants in the goals and
mission of the Authority, the directors of
HCMUD #18 are committed to continuing our
same high standards of water and sewer
services for our customers and neighbors. We
hope that you will visit us online to stay
informed about these and other important
water issues.
